Yes the obvious question is where is season 1? And a precise answer is our lives that we have lived before the pandemic is all season 1. Every person has had their own version, adventure and climax in season one. However season 2 is going to be similar for most of the people or people from the same strata at least. Life is going to be more challenging & not as freely available as in season 1. Resources are going to shrink and one will have to do lot of collaborative work to be able to make ends meet. Lot of professions would be replaced by digital medium and AI. Creative professions are going to be the most lashed ones. In saying so, how does one still run the show and make survival strategy? In my opinion as a entrepreneur the road map for SME is going to be collaborative and associates model. What does that mean? To understand this let us go back a decade ago when digital medium was on threshold; breaking barriers of conventional sales & marketing. Online sales portals, Instagram, Facebook were new platforms to sell products. Retail has been getting a beating since then. Also advertising & creative spends have been shrunk from OOH and diverted to digital techno medium. In a scenario like this one has to really come up with out of box thinking to have a firm foot in creative businesses. A new segment of homepreneurs have emerged thanks to digital medium. It has given run for money to quite a few multinationals and is here to stay. For those with clear vision & promising product or services would do phenomenally if strategized well. In saying so these set of homepreneurs have very limited resources (in most cases) and aren’t willing to take more than calculated risk to give their business a bigger exposure on investment particularly for brand building exercise. So in a scenario like this what is the way forward? To my limited knowledge if this segment can connect the right dots and do barter work with related kind of people then there is a big hope. Gone are the days when people would pump resources to boost promotions. For instance I will mention about my business and how and I am working to run it more efficiently. My products are in personal care segment. These are home-made organic products with a shelf life. Online and word of mouth promotions are best suited to our requirement. Doing digital promotions also needs deep pockets and has to be worked on it consistently. I am not willing to generously spend on brand building for now. Therefore I am working on all the resources available from friends & acquaintances and make them profit sharing associates. This model guarantees efficient work competences from all those involved and profits are shared only when earned. No one invests indefinitely and everyone makes a good deal of business. This is a definite way to test one’s own skills & level of confidence one has in self. Also it promises you better earning and doing things in with personal liberty. And you do not have the insecurity of getting a pink slip on one dreadful morning. I suggest the budding entrepreneurs to look around and connect with people who would like to be stake holders and make the business more structured and professional.
